ChatGPT Pro comes in two tiers: $100 a month for 5× Plus usage and $200 for 20×. Both have the same features; the difference is allowance. Since 10 September 2026, new sign-ups and upgrades to Pro $200 are paused, so Pro $100 is the tier you can buy today. Pro is not unlimited: GPT-6 Pro in Chat is capped at 50 messages a week on $100 and 200 on $200.

Pro $100 vs Pro $200
OpenAI says both Pro tiers include the same core capabilities. The only difference is usage: $100 unlocks 5× Plus and $200 unlocks 20× Plus, so $200 gives 4× the allowance of $100 for twice the price.
In Chat, GPT-6 Pro is 50 messages a week on $100, shared with GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, and 200 a week on $200, with a separate daily allowance for Sol Pro. When the $200 weekly GPT-6 Pro limit runs out, ChatGPT switches to GPT-5.6 Thinking.
The Pro $200 sign-up pause
- Since 10 September 2026, OpenAI has paused new sign-ups and upgrades to Pro $200, including upgrades from Free, Go, Plus and Pro $100.
- Existing Pro $200 subscriptions keep renewing. New and existing Pro $100 subscriptions are not affected.
- Some customers who had Pro $200 around the pause get a one-time option to return within 30 days after their access ends.
Codex on Plus vs Pro
Codex and ChatGPT Work share one allowance with a 5-hour window and a weekly window. Pro multiplies that allowance by 5× or 20× Plus. OpenAI publishes 5-hour ranges per model rather than a fixed cap; the table below comes from those ranges.
The Chat limits on GPT-6 Pro are separate. Work and Codex have their own allowance.
Which one to pick
- You rarely hit a limit on Plus: stay on Plus. Pro does not make everyday answers smarter.
- You hit the Codex 5-hour window most days, or need GPT-6 Pro in Chat: Pro $100 is the step you can buy today.
- You need more than 5× Plus: Pro $200 is closed to new sign-ups for now. Eligible Plus and Pro users can add credits instead.
Switching plans and billing
- Upgrading takes effect immediately and your billing cycle starts over.
- Moving to a lower tier takes effect at your next renewal; you keep your current plan until then.
- There is no annual billing or multi-month prepay for Go, Plus or Pro.
- OpenAI support does not reset ChatGPT or Codex usage limits.
